Kuching City is the capital of Sarawak, Malaysia. This city is also the capital of the Kuching Division. The city is located on the Serawak River on the southwestern tip of the Sarawak state on the island of Borneo and covers an area of ​​431 square kilometers (166 sq mi) with a population of around 165,642 in the northern Kuching administrative region and 159,490 in the Kuching Selatan administrative area.

A number of recreational and conserved areas can be found in Kuching. Talang-Satang National Park was established with the main goal of preserving the Sarawak turtle population. It covers a total area of ​​around 19,400 hectares (48 acres), and consists of island land which is below the tide.

This park also includes the coastal area and four surrounding islands from the southwest coast of Sarawak; Talang Besar, Talang Kecil near Sematan, and Satang Besar and Satang Kecil near Santubong, Kuching. These four “Turtle Islands” are responsible for 95% of all turtle landings in Sarawak and this park also includes the Tukong Ara-Banun Nature Reserve, two small islands which are important nesting areas for bird colonies.
